My Favorite Person

My mom is the most amazing person in my life. My mom is amazing because she makes me and my family amazing dinners everyday, takes me everywhere I need to be, and makes sure that I am on time with my homework. Every single day, I come home hungrily awaiting the dinner that my mom makes. Whether it be enchiladas, soup, or chicken, I always look forward to what she has made for us. My mom is also amazing because she drives me everywhere I need to be, rain or shine. She stays up late after my baseball practices, she drives me to school, and wakes up at the crack of dawn to make sure I am where I need to be. Finally, she makes sure that I am not lacking with my homework. If it is just a friendly reminder, or a nudge int he right direction, she is always there for me, no matter what. These are just three of the many things that my mom does for me, but she is by far, the most amazing person on the planet.

20% Project – Week 5

This was a very productive week for coding, as I was able to finish the baseball scheduling code. I talked to my family and some of my friends about how the code looks, and I made many changes so that the window looks amazing, and it is easy to use. This week was a great week because I only had one struggle, which had to do with saving the code file to my laptop. There was an bug that made it so that the file was being read wrong, which really set back my work for the day. Fortunately, I was able to fix it by looking back at the version history of my code, and I was able to re-save the file to my laptop. Because the baseball scheduler is 100% completed now, I will be able to start work on my poster next week, which should put me on track to finish everything on time.

Rad Reading – April

This month, I read a book called Cinder by Marissa Meyer. Cinder is a book about a cyborg girl living in dystopian Beijing who lives with her oppressive Stepmother. The story follows Cinders adventure trying to save the prince of Asia, Kai, from an assassination attempt trying to take his throne, all while a plague is sweeping through the world and killing millions. I loved this book because of the adventure. I love adventure books as a whole, but this book was one of my favorites of all time because of its action, in-depth storyline, and attention to detail by the author.

My favorite character was Kai. He was my favorite character because of his loyalty to the country that he ruled. When he was trying to make an alliance with a rival country who had the cures for the plague, Kai is asked this question. “Imagine there was a cure, but finding it would cost you everything. It would completely ruin your life. What would you do?” Knowing that a cure could save the world and his country, he agrees, and ends up having to marry the queen of the enemy country.

My favorite line from the book is “Broken isn’t the same as unfixable.” This quote is my favorite because it shows how, even in the worst of times, when everything seems broken, you can still be able to salvage a situation, and fix whatever is wrong.

20% Project – Week 4

This week was a tough week for my 20% project. Due to the different bell schedules for state testing this week, I only had about 20 in-class minutes to work on my project. Thankfully, I can work at home just as well as I can work at school, and I was able to make up for the lost time. This week at school I started integrating the round robin to the main code, and at my house I finished it. This week was very productive, and I finished more than I needed to, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t have any struggles. First off, my laptop died halfway through class, so I had to do research on my iPad, but that meant that I lost a lot of time during class. I also ran into some variable issues at my house, but after talking with my mentor about it for a little but, they deduced the problem and I was able to complete everything. I am almost done with everything, so next week will be all about fine tuning the front end of the software (the window that the user sees), and taking input from my friends and family about what I should make it look like.

20% Project – Week 3

This was a very productive week for my 20% project, as I finished this weeks work as well as some of next weeks. I was able to create the outline for my second software, and finish the code that makes the round robin, which is a structure of games that pairs each team against one another. This week was very productive, but I still had some problems. When I started, I had some problems with the coding software I used needing to be updated. However, I was able to get it working after only about five minutes. I had to adjust and work faster to make up for lost time, but while the software was updating, I was able to plan out exactly what I was going to do later for that day. Overall, I finished a ton this week, and I think that next week I will be able to start putting everything together.

The Best Room in the House

My favorite room in my home is the living room. The living room is my favorite room in my house because it is where I can relax, play video games, and hang out with my family. The living room is the biggest room in my house, so it can comfortably fit the couch, piano, bookshelves and T.V. The living room is the perfect place to relax as the multiple windows allow for nice breezes and plenty of natural light, and the multitude of bookshelves allows for almost endless reading. Because the living room has the T.V., it is the place where I play on my switch and watch T.V. Finally, because the living room is the biggest room in the house, you can usually find my brother or dad lounging around, and due to the copious supply of card games, I can have fun with them for hours on end.

20% Project – Week 2

This week was the second week in my 20% project. I accomplished a lot this week. On Friday I forgot my laptop, so I spent the day doing research and practicing coding online. I spent the weekend making up the time I lost on Friday, and made many codes, including the template for the final scheduler and a code that takes the information from the scheduler and puts it into an excel sheet. These are very important parts of my final code, and will lay the foundation for the next couple of weeks. I had many struggles this week, as I forgot my laptop at my house, but the work I did over the weekend made up for it. Obviously, I had to adjust my schedule to include the time for weekend work, but it ended up working out in the end. Next week I will start working on the round robin scheduling system, which takes an input of teams and pairs each one against another. I expect this to take two weeks, as it is fairly complicated, but I am still on track to finishing within my deadline.

Cookies or Brownies?

Which is better, Cookies or Brownies. This question has stumped me and my family for years, and today I am here to finally settle the debate about which baked dessert item is the best. First and foremost, I am going to be talking about the classic, chocolate-chip cookie, and normal chocolate brownie. From a texture standpoint, I think that brownies are better. When they are baked just right, the soft, mushy consistency is nothing short of heavenly. However, a cookie lacks the gooey texture that the brownie has, especially if it is left out fro more than a day. From a flavor standpoint, I think that cookies and brownies each offer up their own strengths. Brownies have the fudgy, chocolaty taste, while cookies have a nice balance between dough and chocolate. The final category I will be judging in is storability. Brownies can be in a fridge for as long as your want, and with a quick microwave, can be just as good as when they first came out of the oven. Cookies however, tend to lose all of their moisture after a single day, becoming hard and brittle, even with microwaving. So which one is better? With all things considered, I think that it is safe to say that brownies are superior to cookies, when it comes to taste texture, and storability.

Coding Preparations – 20% Project, Week #1

Hello! My name is Edison, and for my 20% project, I chose to learn how to code. Today, I wanted to lay the foundation for the next six weeks, and download all of the software that I would need to code anything that I wanted. I also started coding my first software I would attempt to complete during this project, which is a software that would schedule the baseball games for the league that my mom helps run. Today was a very productive day, as I was able to complete the downloading process of everything I would need in order to code anything that I want. The software that I am going to use is called Visual Studio Code, and it is a very useful tool for coding in python, as it can allow you to check for any bugs in your code automatically, and it can be run through the terminal, which is a very easy and quick interface automatically installed in every apple computer/laptop. I am so excited about this project, and I can’t wait to code anything I want for the next six weeks.

Dinner With my Friends

There are so many people I would want to invite to dinner, but these are my top three: Kevin, Max, and Bradley. These three people are my best friends, and going to dinner with them would be super fun. For starters, being able to hang out with my friends would already be fun, but going to dinner with them and doing fun things all night with them would be amazing. We would hang out, and have a good time.
